Exemption Policy for Facilities and Programs
This policy permits exemption from use of TPP forms if the medication management systems used by an institution, facility or program and their associated pharmacy/ies meet specific criteria.
To apply for a TPP exemption, or to request a renewal of an existing exemption, please download and complete the applicable form linked below, and email it to TPP.Info@cpsa.ab.ca.

College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) MD Snapshot-Prescribing
An online, interactive tool, providing physicians with relevant and timely information about their opioid, benzodiazepine and antibiotic prescribing practices. Customized for each recipient, MD Snapshot-Prescribing contains trend data, easy-to-access resources and more.
CPSA Opioid Agonist Treatment Program

Health Canada Section 56(1) CDSA Exemption
In March 2020, Health Canada issued exemptions for the prescribing and provision of controlled substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and its regulations. In June 2021, these exemptions were extended until Sept. 30, 2026.

College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) Prescribing CDS for Nurse Practitioners
To be able to prescribe CDS in Alberta, including those monitored under TPP Alberta, an NP or GNP must successfully complete requirements and be authorized by the College. CDS cannot be prescribed until notification from the College is received.
